Chocolate Walnut Tart
Wanna try some chocolate walnut tarts? It's yummy with some crunchy walnuts in it, top with whipped cream and some chocolate shavings.
Recipe :
Short Crust Pastry :
225 gm flour
100 gm butter
1/2 no. large egg /3-5 tbsp of iced water
Method:
1. Cut butter into flour. Rub in butter till resembles breadcrumbs with your finger tips.
2. Stir in water or egg (if you want a richer crust) and bind together into a soft pliable dough. Add extra iced water if necessary. Do remember not to let your pastry become too wet.
3. Wrap in cling film and chill for at least 15 mins. before using.
4. Press pastry into tart moulds and cut off excess dough at the rim. Leave aside while prepare the chocolate filling.
Chocolate Walnut filling :
1/4 cup milk
3/4 cup non-dairy cream
1/4 cup castor sugar
120 gm semi-sweet chocolate, chopped finely
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla essence
a pinch of salt
1/2 cup chopped toasted walnuts
Method :
1. Heat the cream and the milk over medium-low heat until it simmers slightly around the edges. Do not let it boil. Remove from heat.
2. Add chopped chocolate and stir until melted. Add sugar and salt and whisk until it is well incorporated.
3. Beat the egg in a small bowl until blended and add it to the chocolate mixture. Stir until completely blended and add in vanilla essence.
4. Lastly, fold in toasted walnuts.
5. Now, spoon the filling into the cooled tart shell and bake at a preheat oven at 180C for 15 to 20 mins or until filling is set and the surface is glossy. If you see any bubbles or cracks forming on the surface, take the tart out right away - that means it is begining to become over baked.
6. Let the tarts cooled down and chill it. Before serving, decorate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
7. Eat and enjoy! :-)
